Ten things…

Can you name 10 things you are grateful for?

If you’re like us, sometimes, we hesitate to say we’re publicly grateful so we don’t dishearten the already downhearted. But sometimes, we share our gratitude because we might impart hope to the un-hopeful even when this moment in history is unbearable for so many.

So, as friends who have profoundly suffered AND experienced exceedingly great joy, we’ll take a chance and name” 10″-thanks (for those with us yesterday, think “10 fingers” 🙌) and not in any order of importance.

We are thankful for—

  1. For food, clean water, shelter, utilities, a grateful cuppa, and other basic needs that are met through unmerited grace and space in this world.
  2. For a loving marriage that has lasted 4.2 decades. (yep, 18-year-old brains, yet unformed, are still co-creating and practicing faith, hope, and love after all these years.)
  3. For bodies that are able and differently-abled everyday. Bodies that have endured trauma, terrifying diagnosis, growing/aging, joy, tender care, and healing.
  4. For our children and grandchildren who gather, play, eat, sing, dance, disagree, banter, and pray with us…sometimes all in 24 hours La Dolce Vita! 😜 (and we’re resting today)
  5. For our bigger family, those who are still here to hug, and those we hold in the memory of cheers and tears.
  6. For lifelong friends who still call us friends after ALL we’ve been through AND new friends, we enjoy and envision a new world with!
  7. For work, business partners, and colleagues who value spiritual transformation and want to work with us to help others do the same.
  8. For prayer: silent, loud, weeping, ranting, written, conversational, contemplative, post it note prayers,……..all the prayers.
  9. For a church that still believes that the Church can still look like Jesus if we put aside our certitude, pride, and broken ways while opening to humility, curiosity, and Mystery.
  10. For God. And as my (Clare’s) mother used to say, “Thank God for God.”

What are today’s 10 for you?
Make a list. Use 10 fingers. Maybe even declare your gratitude publicly.

Maybe you’d like to pray with us too—

Creator of all that is good,
We are ever grateful for our 10 listed here. We could go on but you hear our gratitude in the laughter and falling tears. You have led us through dry lands and springs, trust and betrayal, death and resurrection. Oh, how we love and thank you for your faithfulness through it ALL. We ask You to help us see the past, present, and future, in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit— Mother and Father of our souls <3 Amen.

With a grateful 10 and counting…

Scott & Clare
