Mortality and Eternity

Paul Anthony Loughrige 4/1/88-Eternity

Yesterday was our son Paul’s 31st birthday and “coincidentally” yesterdays scripture passage was also the text Scott read at Paul’s memorial service.

April 1, 2019, was full of our delightful, and inexhaustible grandchildren. Basketball, playing with dolls, cooking, eating, cleaning, repeat. Their mom/Aunt Sara showed up with birthday supplies and now decorating and celebrating were added to the mix.

After the kids had their way with us, we fell into bed and turned on our Prayer AP. When we heard these words from Isaiah we were transported to those memories of grief and hope. Paul’s life, disease, and death is the ever-present story in our Lenten Season. These days of ashes, fasting, feasting, and prayer hold us in the reality that mortality and eternity are inextricably bound. Our beloved Paul keeps teaching us to let these present moments lead us to what is eternal. May we never forget.

What helps you live in the present with your eye on Eternity?
