Mercy and Relief

Today’s Psalm from A Guide to Prayer for Ministers and Other Servants

Lord, hear my prayer,
listen to my cry for mercy;
in your faithfulness and righteousness
come to my relief. Psalm 143:1

How do you spell relief? What practices do you engage in during heavy times?

Crossroads Church utilizes this prayer book as one way to pray with the larger Church around the world. With today’s Psalm, we can hear the collective cry for mercy from Earth to Heaven. People are carrying heavy loads right now and need relief for sure.

Last night, I, Clare, offered a cup of tea and an online meeting through Zoom. Several people who joined us were sick or recovering from surgery. A few talked about the financial strain COVID-19 is having on their lives. One teacher was concerned about this time off, and would her students be ready for the next grade. Another person realized they had a job opportunity and could give it to someone else because they didn’t need the money. We listened to each other, prayed, and experienced mercy and relief.

This morning, we cry out with the Psalmist for mercy. God hears, God sees and God cares. The question is, do we care and how can we bring mercy and relief to someone today?

We will keep you posted with prayers and virtual gatherings during this time of social distancing. Please keep us in your prayers as we navigate this season in our church family and ministry life.

Peace to you,

Scott and Clare
