Your voice

“To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.”  Abraham Lincloln

(continued thoughts from yesterdays blog)

Paul had no voice but ours.  Over and over the doctors tried to persuade us to abort our son’s life.  In the ninth month Dr. M. said, “I am prepared to empty the contents of your uterus today”  Scott looked at him again, dead in the eye and said, “the contents of my wifes uterus is our son and his name is Paul, please refer to him that way.”

On the day of Paul’s birth we held his little stillborn body… we wept, prayed and praised God for his life.  While we were saying our final good-byes one of our loved ones looked at Paul and said, “now I understand.”  There were so many things we desperately wanted people to understand… our son mattered in God’s plan, he fulfilled God’s purpose for him on this earth, he was loved at the deepest level we could love.  On April 1st 1988 Paul was in the presence of God for eternity.  We can almost hear Jesus say to you, “well done good and faithful servant, you taught your family, your church about Me.  Your voice was clear in declaring the value of human life.  Many didn’t see you as valuable but your family did.  Your life will bring healing and comfort to parents who have aborted and miscarried their children.  Your loved ones will tell them their children love them and are here with Me … waiting for them.  Your life will preach many sermons and appear in writings reaching out to those who don’t know just how beautiful you are, how fearfully and wonderfully made you are.  Your family will carry your voice, they will not be silent.  They will protest when the vulnerable are not valued.  Paul your voice lives in them for eternity.”

In the Midday Prayers below, the scripture speaks of Jesus being taking away like a lamb to slaughter and the prophet says, “who of his generation protested?”
Our family knows we protested in the will of God.  Do you know what God has called you to protest to this generation?

Give up – silence and cowardice

Give in – and protest against injustice

Give out – in the spirit of Love true words of right and wrong
