What happens to you after a retreat or time away? It’s almost always the same for me. I come away asking God, “What is mine to do?”
Every season of life deserves a time of reflection and reorientation. As long as there is breath in your lungs, you have a God-given purpose here. Your life matters to the co-creating dream of God, so don’t move too quickly past the question. What is yours to do?
Maybe this little prayer will offer you a way to ask the seasonal (and momently 😉) question that should never go away —
What is mine to do?
Mine is my history, and this present moment
The future is in Your hands.
I am a simple participant and a willing accomplice with you, Holy Spirit.
You know my heart beats for your Kingdom to come.
My heart breaks for the injustice against the vulnerable.
What is mine to do?
Silence breaks open my longing for more.
Listening confirms the call to be here in my life.
I hold the reality of me before You; joy, disappointment, mistakes, accomplishment, hideous crimes to humanity, gratitude for the doers of justice, and crying out for mercy for all the precious ones I hold dear…
I offer to You all my heart-beating and heart-breaking truth as a prayer.
Let me hear the Voice of Love lead me where all that has been and now belongs to the future of a more just and merciful world.
And today, I ask again the question that won’t go away, “What is mine to do?”
I hear you say, “Let’s create a better future for the children together.”
I ask, how do I do that with You?
You say, “Bring it all, past and present moments. You, just be you, and I’ll be Me. Your future is in My hands.”
Selah.
