RESTING OR WRESTLING and a Toast for All of Us
How did you spend your weekend—resting or wrestling?
And if you’re wrestling, what do you need most right now?
My weekend was shaped by our spiritual direction school, where nearly-graduated directors leaned into the hard but holy work of steadying their nervous systems in disorienting times. Together we traced our attachment patterns, noticed what stood between us and peace, and practiced setting aside the noise until only one invitation remained—the one we could carry into prayer.
In the evenings, my daughter joined me after her workshop. Our conversations stretched late into the night—about freedom, human flourishing, and the systems that promise to heal but too often harm. We named how even the well-intentioned, guided by an ethic of “do no harm,” can still leave wounds behind. We laughed, we ached, and we admitted our own imperfections. By the time we packed up, each of us carried words on paper that gave voice both to the pain of the world and to the hope that still rises between us.
And because I believe we need reminders that lift our eyes, I’ll leave you with a few things for your soul:
Grace for the World — a night of music and witness in St. Peter’s Square. From Pharrell Williams and Jennifer Hudson to Andrea Bocelli and global leaders, it was a gathering that called us to conscience and dared us to hope. SO GOOD for the SOUL!
My mom’s favorite toast (with edits from friends
) that always makes me smile:
THERE’S JUST ENOUGH GOOD IN THE WORST OF US,AND JUST ENOUGH BAD IN THE BEST OF US,
THAT IT HARDLY PAYS ANY OF US
TO THINK WE’RE SUPERIOR TO THE REST OF US!

And finally, our invitations: join us for a Weekend Retreat or the ©iEnneagram Retreat and Certification. These are spaces to lay down what you carry, to notice what is healing, and to discover what gift in you is waiting for the world. (check links for more info
)
So I leave you with this wondering:
Who and where can hold space for you as you sort through the weight you carry? Who reminds you of the grace in your life, and affirms the gift you alone can offer for the good of the world?
