“Prayerful” Presence- 3rd Monday of Advent Be like Mary =)

Staying with 3rd Sunday of Advent reading
Luke ( full reading here) 1:46b-55

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior” Mary

How are you doing with prayer these days? When you’re “prayerful” are you present to the realities of your life, the condition of our world, and still rejoicing from the depths of your soul? If we’re honest- not always.

Mary embodies “prayerful” presence. Aware of cruel Roman rule, gender inferiority, a single mom castaway who would become a refugee, not to mention having angels tell you “be not afraid” means you have every natural reason to be terrified! Yet, Mary has a song of joy and justice. She begins with joy and declares that her son’s birth will bring the outcasts in and upset systems of evil power👊

Are you fearful, sad, anxious or angry? Have you talked to God about these things and create space to listen…really listen?

Check out our 2020 Advent Vlog/ blog with our beloved friend, Adele Calhoun (Enneagram Style-4 masterfully holding grief and gratitude). Adele is a person of prayer, author of multiple books on the spiritual life (and our co-author for Spiritual Rhythms for the Enneagram ) talks about prayer in ways that don’t lay anything ill-fitting on you and may have you rejoicing.

Practice Prayerful presence

  • Talk to God
  • Be objective about your feelings, accepting them for what they are
  • Focus on what is positive in the present
  • Be aware of present moment opportunities
  • Be consistent in action despite fluctuating and intense feelings

Our souls rejoice in prayer,

Clare and Scott
