Not Enough Evidence

“Not enough evidence, God, not enough evidence.”

Those are the words of renowned philosopher and agnostic Bertrand Russell. When Russell was asked what he would say if he died and found himself confronted by God asking him why he had not believed in him, Russell declared that he would tell God “Not enough evidence, God, not enough evidence.”

Some would say the evidence of suffering and tragedies prove that there is no God, and that if there is, He certainly doesn’t care. Why do bad things happen to good and innocent people?

Others might say there are too many options in spirituality to nail it down to just “one God” or there’s so much bad religion that you can’t trust anyone to define who God is.

Isn’t it God’s fault that everyone doesn’t believe in him? He could provide better evidence, fix more problems… make people believe.

We are attempting to tackle some of the issues people blame God for in our new series “Blame God”.  Please leave comments on our blog, respond to this weekly enote, and text your comments on Sundays so you can tell us what you think people blame God for. As pastors and fellow questioners, we will bring our best to the conversation, by the grace of God.  We believe God will meet us in powerful ways and deepen our faith.

Also don’t forget other ways to deepen your faith are: the start of our Midweek Experience, classes, Life Groups, To Save a Life for teens, and Awana for children.  Take the time to invest in your faith and the faith of your children this fall.

“Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you for a reason regarding the hope that is in you.”  1 Peter 3:15
