International Women’s History Month 2020

Do you think these history-makers may be exemplars for the Nine Enneagram Styles? Maybe…maybe not. Still, each of them has inspired me (and maybe you as well) for obvious and not so obvious reasons

As I sit with the stories of each of these “sheroes,” I experience the result of 9-Styles who have opened space for us. In these women I observe–strength as contemplative love 8/5/2, loyalty effectively harmonizing 6/3/9, and originality joyfully reforming 4/7/1. Imperfect as they are, they showed up with head, heart, and gut! Maybe you have learned from their full-bodied, 3 brained, failures and successes. I know I have.

Some of these women have helped me practice the vow of stability. In times when I wanted to quit they offered me the courage to keep on keeping on.

I’ll never forget when Scott said, “I’ll support whatever you decide, but remember, if you leave now you’ll leave this work for the next generation.”

No pressure, right? Those words came some twenty-five years ago after yet another individual had a “theological” issue with my role as a Lead Pastor.

I’ve had men tell me women shouldn’t teach because we have periods. No joke. I’ve had women in high powered positions in other disciplines who were unable to see a woman as a “spiritual” authority. For real.

This International Women’s History Month I want to thank women who have gone before me. During IWHM, I will highlight women who have have been game-changers for good. Women of faith, government, math/science, music,  and more. These women warriors give me a vision for the future…for the next generation. Brothers and sisters maybe they will offer you hope as well. We hope you’ll join us.
