Advent Weeks 3, 4 and Christmas!

You may have guessed it, it’s me, Clare, back to doing the marketing for Crossroads Soul Resources, which means ______________ you fill in the blank. 😅 But let’s be clear: Scott doesn’t help with anything technological 😉

For anyone who missed these things on our other platforms, I am catching our “blog friends” up on Advent Week 3,4 and Christmas posts. Christmastide is coming separately. I hope you enjoy it!

Advent Week 4: PEACE

Merry Blessed Mindful Christmas

Merry, Blessed, and Mindful Christmas, dear friends!

For unto us, a child is born—may we carry the life of Christ in the Way of Christ.

This year, we’re drawn again to Kelly Latimore‘s haunting icon, Christ in the Rubble. It feels so true to where Jesus chooses to be born—not in gilded halls or among abundance alone, but in the rubble of broken lives, broken systems, and broken hearts.

Yesterday, as our family gathered in warmth, laughter, and love, we were deeply grateful for the abundance of our lives. At many of my (Clare’s) childhood feasts, my dad would say, “I wonder what the poor are eating tonight?” It was Dad’s way of hardwiring us so that upon leaving the table, we would do something for others with our abundance. So we carry on this tradition with a simple meditation for all those who call us friends:

Christ in the Rubble

In the glow of twinkling lights,

amid laughter, warmth, and tree,

we gather, wrapped in comfort’s fold,

a world of abundance we can see.

Yet there in shadows, cries arise,

from broken homes and shattered lands,

Christ is born where hearts are torn,

where rubble rests in weary hands.

This holy child, a prince of peace,

comes not to halls of wealth or might,

but to the margins, grief’s embrace,

a beacon in the darkest night.

So as we cherish all we hold,

the gifts, the feast, the love we share,

may hearts expand, to see and tend,

the burdens others bear.

For Christmas finds its truest glow

not just in joy, but mercy’s flow.

Today, we’re mindful of the many who spend Christmas in places of violence, loss, conflict, uncertainty, and tragedy. Christ comes to all of us—but especially to those sitting in the rubble.May we hold joy and sorrow together, celebrating the Light that enters every shadowed corner of the world. And may our gratitude expand into compassion, seeking ways to be Christ’s presence in the brokenness around us.

Merry, Blessed, and Mindful Christmas to us all,

Clare and Scott
