Your God says,
    “Comfort, comfort my people.
 Speak kindly to Jerusalem …
Isaiah 40 ERV

What does it mean to “speak kindly”? Have you experienced the presence of Christ as kind? If the lovingkindness of God leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4), it may be that kindness is more about getting free from our unhealthy attachments, sin patterns, or addictions.

Richard Rohr says,”‘Stinking thinking’ is the universal addiction. Substance addictions like alcohol and drugs are merely the most visible form of addiction, but actually we are all addicted to our own habitual way of thinking and doing. These attachments are at first hidden to us. We cannot heal what we do not first acknowledge.” And I would add how will we know what we don’t know if we don’t have a friend who will intervene.

Today, addiction expert and former addict Jeremy Lihte, talks about how intervention could be the kindness that can save your life. Jeremy says, “nine out of ten interventions are successful but only one out of ten families are willing to do the intervention. Families are scared that their loved one will be mad at them.” Psalm 141 (NIV) declares, Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head or in the Message Version, May the Just One set me straight, may the Kind One correct me.

I invite you to let Jeremy be the kind presence of Christ for us. All guests are Alumni of ©iEnneagram Certification Program or CROSSROADS TRANSFORMING RETREATS COMMUNITY
