Lectionary Reading from the Blue Book

John 15:12-27 The Voice (Read full passage here)
12 My commandment to you is this: love others as I have loved you. 13 There is no greater way to love than to give your life for your friends. 14 You celebrate our friendship if you obey this command. 15 I don’t call you servants any longer; servants don’t know what the master is doing, but I have told you everything the Father has said to Me. I call you friends.

Take that in…read this passage a few times,,,slowly and reflectively…let God Speak.

How is your friendship with God these days? What words describe how you relate to Christ? Is it dutiful like a servant or close? Is your view of God like that of a taskmaster? How do you connect to God as Creator of all who also wants to be your friend?

Spend time considering the most intimate friend you’ve ever had. How did you look at each other, talk to one another? What did you do together that you both loved to do? What values did you share? What made this relationship the best? Now talk to God about those things and open up to a deeper connection. Add to your calendar time and practices that will help you develop a close relationship with the One who calls you a friend.
