“The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect,
and who look forward to something greater to come.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Advent is the beginning of the Christian year. It is the season of reflective preparation for the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the expected return of Christ, all held in our daily remembrance of being present to the presence of Christ,
The first Sunday of Advent’s Gospel reading (read the whole passage here- Matthew 24:36-44) is a stop-you-in-your-tracks reading and ends with these words from Jesus—
“Therefore, you also must be ready, for the Son of Man
is coming at an unexpected hour.” Jesus
An unexpected hour. OK. That means you’re not going to know, and we won’t either. But we’re invited to be ready.
So, let’s ask the Holy Spirit—
What is the meaning of the “unexpected hour” for me?
Am I ready for Christ right now?
What would help me get ready?
Am I living time well?
Are my priorities Your priorities?
We invite you to join us in the Advent season as we open to new ways of being ready, i.e., present to the presence of Christ.
