Mindful or Mindless Eating?

“Am I eating chicken or tuna?”  –  Jessica Simpson

Do you know what you’re eating?  Mindless eating is an American pastime, all the while an *Associated Press article reports that 18,000 children die of starvation every day and some 850 million people go to bed hungry.  The prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 55 from Midday prayers below) speaks to those of us who are mindlessly eating what doesn’t satisfy and promising real food for the hungry.   Maybe its time to start mindfully eating…

Today as a Lenten practice…

Give up –  a meal or more and pray for spiritual and physical world hunger

Give in – to the spiritual practice of eating mindfully

Give out – the money you didn’t spend on mindless eating to a feeding program
