Ask for a Sign

Advent Instrumental – by Don Coppo

Monday, Day 16: The with-God life

10 Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, 11 “Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test.” 13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give youa sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (meaning, God with us). Isaiah 7:10-14

Thought:  Ask for a Sign.  Despite the protests and warnings of Isaiah, King Ahaz pretended He wanted to be “God’s king” but lived a life of wickedness and idolatry.  The graciousness of God shows up in the promise of a Savior when “God’s people” were far from following Him.  God says, I am going to be with you not because you are good but because I am gracious.  You don’t need to ask for a sign, I’ll give you one.  Your heart may be far from me but I am with you.

Practice: Notice the places in your life when you ignored God, lied to God… even sinned against God, like Ahaz.  How was God with you?  How did the promise of Immanuel God with us eventually show up in your life?  Spend time giving thanks to God for his mercy, grace and tenacious God with-you promise.

Prayer:

You’re with Us- by Hillsong Music

v 1:

Before the world
You knew the plans for me
Before my heart believed
You came to my rescue
And now I’m found in love
There’s nowhere else to run
You keep my life within
Your mighty hand
Oh God

CHORUS:
There’s no end to Your love
There’s no end to Your love
You’re with us
You’re with us
There’s nothing in this world
That could take You away
You’re with us
You’re with us

VERSE 2:

Before I call
I know You’ll answer me
You’ll make a way
Beyond what I could imagine
What could separate
From the love You give
I put my hope in everything
That You are
Oh God

CHORUS:

There’s no end to Your love
There’s no end to Your love
You’re with us
You’re with us
There’s nothing in this world
That could take You away
You’re with us
You’re with us

CHORUS:

There’s no end to Your love
There’s no end to Your love
You’re with us
You’re with us
There’s nothing in this world
That could take You away
You’re with us
You’re with us
