Wait …and then wait some more…

Saturday, Day 14: The with-God life

Wait …and then wait some more…

6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you… 11Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”  Acts 1:6,7,11

Bluebook (Lectionary) Reading:  Acts 1:1-11

Thought:  Wait …and then wait some more…  Really?  The readings for Advent are full of making us wait.  Waiting seems to be the story of every good gift… the Savior, the infilling of the Holy Spirit, Heaven… all with the message “wait and then wait some more”.  Mary’s waiting for Jesus had to be the ultimate waiting story.  Most expectant parents wonder what the delivery will be like, who will the child look like, will I be a good parent etc… The 9 months of waiting give you great opportunities for anxiety and hope, reverent fear and thrill… all of this to rework the meaning of your entire life and future.  Mary taught us how to wait for what comes from God.  I guess waiting is important.

Practice:  Spend a day waiting.  Take 20 minutes of silence… no words, just waiting in God’s presence.  Choose slow-food instead of fast-food, pick the longest line at the grocery store, write a love letter long-hand to an important person in your life.  Purposefully let go of the practices that expedite your life and just wait…

Prayer:  You’ll come~ by Brooke Frasier (words below video)

V1) I have decided

I have resolved

To wait upon You Lord

My rock and Redeemer

Shield and reward

I’ll wait upon You Lord

As surely as the sun will rise

You’ll come to us

Certain as the dawn appears

Chorus

You’ll come

Let Your glory fall as You respond to us

Spirit rain

Flood into our thirsty hearts again

You’ll come

You’ll come

V2)  We are not shaken

We are not moved

We wait upon You Lord

Mighty deliverer

Triumph and truth

We wait upon You Lord

As surely as the sun will rise

You’ll come to us

Certain as Your word endures

Chorus

You’ll come

Let Your glory fall as You respond to us

Spirit rain

Flood into our thirsty hearts again

You’ll come

You’ll come

Bridge

Chains be broken

Lives be healed

Eyes be opened

Christ is revealed
